The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has published a Science for Policy report called Job Creation in Europe: A firm-level analysis using data from Orbis. The report is an empirical analysis of job creation in the EU. Researchers used Orbis to find firm-level employment data from 2004-2015.
- The "young SME" (small and medium-sized enterprises) category had the largest contribution to employment growth at 40%, while its share of employment was 15%
- The report identifies challenges for SME job creation during their scaling-up developmental phase
- High-growth firms (HGF) exhibited the largest incidence on total job creation at 60%
- Firms borrowing for the first time reported an expected increase of net job creation rates by an average of 8% in the next 3 years
